Which more likely to win the Academy Award this year? Sorry, you can’t use a lifeline.
- Slumdog Millionaire.
- Anything with Nicholas Cage in it.
- My dog JD.
- My dog JD’s squeaky toy.
Is that you’re final answer? Then you’ve chosen wisely. There’s no cash prize, but you get more than a great two hours of entertainment from Slumdog Millionaire.
Jamal is an impoverished teen in India, who becomes a contestant on the Hindi version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. His goal isn’t to win the money, but rather the love of a girl. The story is mainly a flashback retelling how Jamal comes to answer each game show question.
Jamal hasn’t lived an easy life. The combination of him attaining the easy money compared to the harsh and tragic realities of his own life make for real movie magic. For each victory, there’s an equal tragedy in his life and it has you rooting for Jamal’s success from early on.
The story is fresh and original and highly deserving of at least a nod for best picture of 2008.
